The Quality Improvement in Correctional Medicine IA Program is a two-day assessment designed to thoroughly evaluate the healthcare professional’s
general clinical knowledge and judgment. Components of the assessmentprogram include:
Assessment of Clinical Knowledge, Skill and Judgment. This assessment is conducted by a member
of the QICM Faculty.
Chart review - The participant provides a random sample of redacted chart entries which
are assessed for overall quality, organization, legibility, proper documentation,
and billing/coding
A number of multiple-choice written exams covering ethics and communication, mechanisms of
disease, pharmacotherapeutics and a subject exam covering either family medicine
or internal medicine. This subject exam will be replaced by a women’s healthcare
exam for those physicians employed at a women’s facility.
A computer simulation test where the participant manages cases to assess their clinical decision-making,
general medicine knowledge, and patient-management skills
A computer test used to evaluate clinical decision-making and judgment
The participant is evaluated on their performance of a history and physical on a simulated patient
An exit interview
One of the examinations you will be asked to complete is a USMLE computer simulation
test (PRIMUM) where the participant manages cases to assess clinical decision-making,
general medicine knowledge and patient management skills. The enclosed CD provides
you with orientation material for this test as well as practice cases.

are active clinicians themselves, and perform their assessment and teaching functions
in an unbiased and fair manner.
